So what is the Mayan Propehcy?
Good question, one which really can't be answered fully. What it is not is a doomsday prophecy. The Mayan calendar, first drawn up and measured with startling astronomical knowledge in ancient times, is said to end on this ominous date, 12.21.12. Certain other ancient sources attribute this date with a cataclysmic shift in tha fate of humanity rather than an end to its existence.
The overlap of celestial alignments around this time may or may not have been known to the Mayans, Olmecs, and other MesoAmerican civilizations. True that such advanced mapping of the cosmos and predictions would have required knowledge and skills that modern men are still coming to grasps with.
Of course, some suggest that this knowledge was available to the ancients , given to them by visitors from other worlds. Some of these people, however, also believe that these same "visitors" built the pyramids using alien technology.
Which is silly.
Of course, we know that aliens did build the pyramids. As Dmitri Kronastia tells Shep Smyth in 12.21.12, however, they do so by hand. "Teach by examples, no?" he jokes.
A master of disguises and a lady of many hidden talents, Victoria Kent is a study in extremes. Both a compassionate humanitarian and a ruthless soldier and assasin, she boldly infiltrates Project Bullfighter and makes away with the archaeological treasures discovered in Mexico. She is the leader of The Order, a secret society that worships her as a goddess and caters to her every whim and wish.
Poised to be the next big star of Egyptology when he discovered an ancient text suggesting Cleopatra was, in fact, murdered. Shep staked his reputation on finding proof for what he felt in his gut was the truth. When he lost his wife in pursuit of that evidence, he fell to pieces. The discovery of Cleo's statue in Mexico, may be his last chance to redeem himself and his wife's honor.
Dmitri
As the owner of the Plaxis Corporation, Dmitri Kronastia, rumored to be a member of the Russian mofia and so much more, takes special interest in Project Bullfighter. When he learns of Victoria's heist, he recruits the aid of Shep Smyth and Hector Gonzalez to chase her to London, revealing in the process his true intentions to the unprepared archaeologists.
Hector
An expert in Mesoamerican archaeology, Hector Gonzalez is the excavation director of Project Bullfighter. Once a classmate of Shep Smyth's, Hector's first reaction to finding an Egyptian artifact in a site dating from Pre-Columbian times is to phone his friend and invite him to verify the object's authenticity. Though funded by Plaxis, Hector scoffs at their stringent security requirements, until experience proves why such extreme measures were deemed necessary.
Alex
Orphaned at the age of ten, Alexander Cezanne was taken in, unbeknownst to him, by members of The Order. Later, his mysterious benefactor was made known to him and he joined The Order as a promising acolyte of the High Priest's. Alex is one of Victoria Kent's most beloved members, and she takes a special interest in his training and developing his knowledge of her world and history.
Anton
Another character who is more than he appears, Anton is Dmitri Kronastia's valet and personal assistant. He is also a high ranking member of The Order, serving at Victoria's behest as an imbed with the Plaxis Corporation.
Christine
Christine Smyth was both Shep's wife and professional partner until her life ended tragically in a cave in in Egypt. She believed in Shep to a fault, and was his most ardent supporter, though that suppot cost her the love and friendship of many of her friends and family.
The Order
A clandestine organization based in England and in the service of Victoria Kent, they have attempted to counteract Dmitri Kronastia's efforts to suppress knowledge of the ancients of Egypt and the Americas. They don't understand, however, that Victoria is using them as a pawn in her ultimate plan to see through the prophecies of 12.21.12.
Last sovreign monarch of Ancient Egypt, though not even Egyptian. The Macedonian Ptolmaic Dynasty ruled from 332 BCE when Alexander the Great conquered the region and his general, Ptolemy Soter I, became Pharaoh, until Cleopatra's death under Roman occupation in 30 BCE.
Remembered as a cunning ruler who used both body and brain to cement power, Egypt, a world power for four millenia, would not again be a free country for nearly 2000 years after her death.
